Ha Haengeun (하행은, 河杏銀)
Ha Haengeun was born in 1985 in Jindo, Republic of Korea. She spent her early childhood surrounded by the sea and nature before moving to Seoul at the age of seven. The contrast between these two environments became an enduring foundation for the way she perceives the world.
Drawing has been a natural part of her life since childhood. Influenced by comics and animation, she developed an early fascination with imaginary worlds and visual storytelling, experiences that continue to resonate in her work.
After majoring in Western Painting at Deokwon Arts High School, she studied in the Department of Textile Art and Fashion Design at Hongik University. There, she explored textile art, tapestry, drawing, and a wide range of materials, while developing a deep interest in Eastern philosophy, Indian philosophy, and psychology.
During university, encountering the paintings of Bada Shanren marked a turning point in her understanding of painting. His work revealed that painting could move beyond visual representation to evoke what cannot be seen. Around the same time, reading the Zhuangzi broadened her understanding of life and art, becoming a lasting influence on her artistic practice.
Her practice began with the question, “Who am I?” Curiosity about life and death, humanity and nature, art and existence continues to shape her work. Although these questions have evolved over time, she remains more interested in living with them than in seeking definitive answers.
Since 2010, she has continuously developed figurative works that reflect on humanity and the self. While the human figure remains central to her practice, her work has gradually expanded into still life, ceramic sculpture, and abstraction.
Changes in life also brought changes to her practice. As her way of working evolved, she began working with ceramics, a medium that transformed the way she approached painting. Today, painting and ceramics continue to influence one another, engaging in an ongoing dialogue within her practice.
Her work always begins with lived experience. Childhood memories, people and nature, everyday life, books, music, art history, philosophy, and the encounters of daily life gradually form new relationships within her work.
Today, working across painting and ceramic sculpture, she explores the invisible relationships between humanity and nature, objects and memory, the passage of time, and different ways of being.

1985년 대한민국 진도에서 태어났다. 바다와 자연을 가까이하며 어린 시절을 보낸 뒤 일곱 살에 서울로 이주했다. 자연 속에서의 기억과 도시에서의 삶은 이후 작업을 바라보는 중요한 바탕이 되었다.
어린 시절부터 그림 그리기를 좋아했다. 만화와 애니메이션을 즐겨 보며 상상의 세계를 자연스럽게 받아들였고, 다양한 이미지들은 오래도록 기억 속에 남았다.
덕원예술고등학교에서는 도예, 조소, 디자인, 동양화, 서양화, 판화를 경험한 뒤 서양화를 전공했다. 이후 홍익대학교 섬유미술·패션디자인과에서 공부하며 텍스타일 아트와 태피스트리, 드로잉을 비롯한 다양한 재료와 표현 방식을 탐구했고, 동양철학과 인도철학, 심리학에 깊은 관심을 가졌다.
대학 시절 예술론 수업에서 처음 마주한 팔대산인의 회화는 회화를 바라보는 방식을 바꾸어 놓았다. 그의 작품은 회화가 눈에 보이는 세계를 재현하는 것을 넘어, 보이지 않는 것을 드러낼 수 있다는 가능성을 보여주었다. 같은 시기에 만난 『장자』는 삶과 예술을 바라보는 시야를 넓혀 주었고, 이후 작업을 이어가는 데 지속적인 영향을 주고 있다.
작업은 “나는 누구인가?”라는 질문에서 시작되었다. 삶과 죽음, 인간과 자연, 예술과 존재에 대한 관심은 지금까지 작업의 바탕이 되고 있다. 질문은 시간이 흐르며 조금씩 달라졌지만, 하나의 답을 찾기보다 질문과 함께 살아가는 일이 작업의 중요한 태도가 되었다.
2010년부터 인간과 자신을 바라보는 인물 작업을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다. 인물은 지금도 작업의 중심에 있으며, 시간이 흐르면서 정물, 도자 조각, 그리고 추상으로 작업의 영역을 넓혀 왔다.
삶의 변화는 작업의 풍경도 바꾸어 놓았다. 이전과는 다른 속도와 방식으로 작업을 이어가는 과정에서 도자를 만나게 되었고, 회화와 도자는 서로를 비추며 함께 변화해 왔다. 지금도 두 매체는 하나의 작업 안에서 자연스럽게 대화를 이어가고 있다.
작업은 언제나 자신의 삶에서 출발한다. 어린 시절의 기억, 사람과 자연, 일상의 풍경, 책과 음악, 미술사와 철학, 그리고 살아가며 만나는 수많은 경험들은 작품 속에서 새로운 관계를 만들어 간다.
현재는 회화와 도자 조각을 중심으로 작업하며, 인간과 자연, 사물과 기억, 시간의 흐름, 그리고 존재하는 다양한 방식들 사이의 보이지 않는 관계를 탐구하고 있다.
현재 서울에서 거주하며 작업하고 있다.
